Pets of Bel Air Sued for Fraud

An upscale Bel Air pet store we mentioned in the past allegedly got many of its pets from puppy mills while claiming the animals were from private breeders was sued today for alleged false advertising and fraud.

Attorney Wayne S. Kreger, representing himself, filed the case in Los Angeles Superior Court. He is seeking unspecified actual and punitive damages, as well as certification of the complaint as a class-action lawsuit and an order stopping further alleged deceptive advertising.

The store, with a celebrity clientele that has included Paris Hilton, gained notoriety earlier this month when the Humane Society alleged many of the store’s animals came from Midwest puppy mills.

In his lawsuit, Kreger states he bought a Chihuahua from Pets of Bel Air in August and that 12 days later it died in his wife’s arms of parvo, a virus that attack’s the digestive system.

Breaking News: Michael Vick Sentenced for Dog-Fighting

Ex-NFL star Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison Monday for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy that involved gambling and killing pit bulls.

The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback could have been sentenced up to five years by District Judge Henry E. Hudson. Vick was dressed in a black-and-white striped prison suit and apologized to the court and his family.

Vick pleaded guilty in August, admitting he bankrolled the “Bad Newz Kennels” dogfighting operation and helped kill six to eight dogs.

In a plea agreement, he admitted bankrolling the dogfighting ring on his 15-acre property in rural southeastern Virginia and helping kill pit bulls that did not perform well in test fights. He also admitted providing money for bets on the fights but said he never shared in any winnings.
