Joaquin Phoenix is bristling at Eva Mendes‘ wisecrack that doing We Own the Night with him was “kind of like working with a puppy dog or a 2-year-old.” Phoenix rants to the December Playboy:

Had I known I was supposed to be a puppy dog, I would have been much more cute and more consistently attentive. My apologies, Eva, but I had a few other scenes that you weren’t in. This puppy dog had a lot of work to do.”

With all the trials and tribulations of her divorce from former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, his soon-to- be ex-wife Heather Mills can at least take comfort in one male companion who always does her bidding — her elderly dog, Oliver.

Just the other day, the wheaten terrier joined her on a shopping trip and when a passer-by commented on 13-year-old Oliver’s obedience, Heather explained: “I put in a lot of hard work training him when he was young.”

“Doesn’t he ever let you down”, asked the fellow shopper?

“No,” replied Heather. “Men let you down. Dogs don’t.”

I was out of the country when this shocking and terrible tragedy occurred on my property. Jacob Adams was not just a devoted employee — he was also a dear friend. I want to offer my heartfelt condolences to his family. I am relieved to know that the coroner’s report confirmed that my dogs were not the cause of his death — and that any wounds found on his body were superficial. I would appreciate the media’s privacy for me and my family during this difficult time.
