Legendary actor and humanitarian Richard Gere attended the World Premiere for his new movie “Hachiko: A Dog’s Story” July 8, 2009 at the Marunouci Picadilly Theater in Tokyo, Japan!
Finally! The film is based on the true story of a professor’s strong bond with an abandoned dog he adopts into his home, which has been described as “the true story of faith, devotion and undying love”. Awwww……
The release date for the film is August 8, 2009 in Japan. I can’t wait to see this one! What could be better than Richard Gere AND a sweet dog in one film???

Richard Gere, holding an Akita puppy from upcoming movie, “Hachiko: A Dog’s Story”.
Wow, have the last couple of years been a box-office bonanza for dog movies or what?
In May of 2007, we reported that the eternally handome Gere would be starring in and producing the touching story of the bond between a college professor and the abandoned dog he takes in, based on a true story. Also starring teen horror movie alumus Sara Roemer, it’s scheduled to be released around August 8, 2009 and is already generating some Oscar buzz for next year!
Sara Roemer is also a dog-lover and has 3 dogs of her own. We look forward to featuring them here soon!
We’re still debating which is cuter here; Richard or that little Akita?
Correction: a couple of CDW readers informed us this is a Shiba Inu…not an Akita in the photo.

Richard Gere will star in and produce Hachiko: A Dog’s Story, a drama that will begin production in September.
Gere will play a college professor who takes in a dog he finds abandoned. Both man and hound find their lives changed forever as they form an unbreakable bond. Scripted by Stephen P. Lindsay, the project is based on a true story and inspired by the 1987 Japanese film “Hachiko monogatari.”
Gere will next be seen in the drama I’m Not There and Spring Break in Bosnia. He’s also starring with Diane Lane in Nights in Rodanthe the movie adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks bestseller for Warner Bros.
