Oprah Winfrey Puppy MemorialAn exhibit dedicated to the memory of Oprah Winfrey’s late dogs opens in Manhattan’s west village, helping to promote pet safety awareness. A life-size monument depicts “puppy versions” of Oprah’s Cocker Spaniel Sophie and Golden Labrador Gracie atop the head of the talk show icon by controversial sculptor Daniel Edwards. The Puppies’ Memorial will be exhibited at Leo Kesting Gallery on May 22nd. “Memories of Sophie and Gracie: A Puppies’ Memorial” is inspired by the Oprah press releases that announced the passing of Gracie, who choked on a ball last year, and the passing of Sophie, who died in March.

Oprah Dedicates Friday’s Show to Sophie

    Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey plans to dedicate a show investigating abuses at puppy mills to her cocker spaniel, Sophie, who died last month (March 10) due to kidney failure.

“Sophie gave me 13 years of unconditional love. She was a true love in my life,” Winfrey says on the broadcast scheduled to air Friday.

The show features special correspondent Lisa Ling investigating puppy mills, which Ling calls “horrific” and “haunting.”

Winfrey says the show is “for anybody anywhere who loves a dog, has ever loved a dog, or just cares about their basic right to humane treatment.”

While Sophie was not a product of a puppy mill, and Winfrey’s three current dogs were adopted from breeders, Winfrey says in the future she would look to adopt from an animal shelter.

    Oprah says:

I would never, ever adopt another pet now without going to a shelter to do it. I am a changed woman after seeing this show.”

Oprah’s Best Friend is Reminded of Sophie

Gayle King, Oprah Winfrey’s best friend, has moved into a penthouse purchased in the name of Oprah’s recently departed pooch, Sophie. According to deed-transfer records released yesterday, a company called Sophie’s Penthouse LLC bought a $7.1 million full-floor sky palace atop the 36-floor building at 207 E. 57th St., reports The Post’s Braden Keil. It has three bedrooms, 31/2 baths, a large living room/dining area, and a 768-square-foot wraparound terrace.

    Oprah’s First Dog, Sophie, Dies

    Oprah, Stedman and Sophie

A spokeswoman for Oprah Winfrey confirmed Wednesday that the TV titan’s venerable cocker spaniel, Sophie — arguably first among equals of Oprah’s pet “children” — had passed away on Monday.

Another source at Harpo added, “everyone here is really sad…Sophie was truly part of the Harpo family — as well as Oprah’s.”

Sophie had been experiencing kidney failure recently and even though Sophie was well into her “old age” at 13 which was most likely a contributing factor, we’re sure this comes as a hard blow especially with Oprah’s dog, Gracie passing away last year.

    RIP Sophie!
