Burlesque star Dita Von Teese has clashed with animal charity People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA), after confessing her love for controversial French delicacy foie gras.

The exotic dancer has already been accused of hypocrisy for continuing to eat meat and wear fur, despite her ties to the animal rights organization. And now she has confessed one of her favorite foods is the engorged liver of ducks and geese, telling The New York Times, “My guilty pleasure is eating foie gras in Paris. I feel guilty and horrible about it.”

Her comments have angered PETA. The charity’s media director Michael McGraw released the following statement:

We were aware that Dita is not a vegetarian before working with her, and she has brought much needed attention to an important PETA campaign promoting spaying and neutering of companion animals but foie gras entails some of the cruelest factory farming abuses, which is why most people choose not to eat it. Foie gras is made from the grotesquely enlarged livers of ducks and geese who are cruelly force-fed by pipes that are shoved down their throats every day, pumping up to four pounds of grain and fat into their stomachs. We hope that Dita does the right thing and eliminates foie gras from her diet.”

Dita Von Teese is PETA’s Newest Pet

Dita Von Teese for PETA

A new PETA ad features burlesque queen Dita Von Teese as the teacher of every schoolboy’s dreams: She’s cinched in by a powder-pink corset, wearing stilettos and fishnet stockings — and well aware of the effect she’s having on the apt pupil sitting at her feet.

Fresh off a campaign that made the media sit up last week and take notice when it unveiled a new public service announcement featuring a nude Alicia Silverstone, PETA’s Los Angeles office pulled back the curtain on the new ad featuring Von Teese as she teaches her ABCs — which stands for Animal Birth Control today.

The ad quotes Von Teese as saying:

Nearly 4 million dogs and cats are put to death in the U.S. every year because there are not enough good homes. You can help prevent this — always spay or neuter your animals, and if you’re considering adding a dog or cat to your family, please adopt from your local animal shelter.

I always wonder when celebrity couples split after acquiring pets together if they have difficulty deciding on who gets which pet. It looks like in the case of the Dita von Teese/Marilyn Manson split, they’ve having some difficulties. According to Page Six, the couple couple have no children but they do have several cats and two dachshunds, Greta and Eva.

A source friendly with the two says, “They are fighting over custody of the cats – not so much the dogs.” Von Teese, a stunning burlesque dancer and MAC spokeswoman, dumped Manson last week because of his “demons” and hard-drinking ways. She took all the animals with her when she moved out of the house, but apparently, Manson misses the felines most. Von Teese declined comment.

All the way in Paris, a gorgeous Diva Von Teese held a little pup at Paris Fashion Week Spring Summer 2007. Is this her pup you ask? I don’t think so. I read she has two Daschunds, Eva and Greta. I searched high and low for a picture of her with her dogs but to [...]
