The Real Housewives of New York City & Their Pets: Bethenny Frankel & Cookie

    Bethenny Frankel and Cookie

    Bethenny Frankel & Cookie

    Bethenny Frankel & Cookie

Wrapping up the week and our Real Housewives of New York City interviews, we bring you Bethenny Frankel and her dog, Cookie. Coming next week, if we can get pictures soon will be Ramona Singer and the family dog, Coco.

CDW: Thanks for interviewing with us a second time! Who knew our paths would cross again this way? We watch the show obviously and we read on your blog at Bravo that Cookie was ill. What was wrong and how is she now?

Bethenny: Cookie has something called IMT. It is a blood platelet disorder. Basically, she had fewer than 100 blood platelets when she is supposed to have something like 250 to 500 thousand which is terrifying. She didn’t have a good chance. Blood platelets are what clots when you feel hurt. We were terrified that she would bang her head or hit anything and internally bleed. This happened once, and she relapsed this year, now she is on chemo doses of prednisone and we’re tapering it. A homeopathic vet in the Hamptons has also put her on herbal pills to make the tapering easier. Truthfully, I was lax on the herbals last time and I think it’s why she relapsed. I’m not much for western medicine.

CDW: Does the medicine have any side effects?

Bethenny: The meds make her pee constantly, extremely thirsty and starving and prone to weight gain. She goes for hour long walks each day and is keeping her weight down. Ironically, I’m a natural foods chef and my girl has junk in the trunk.

CDW: That’s funny! You look so happy with your boyfriend Jason, what does Cookie think of him and the kids?

Bethenny: She adores Jason. He is in love with her and his children are beyond obsessed with her. She is very protective (as Lhasa-Apso’s are - she’s a mix) and she loves to sit with them in the car and hang their heads out the window catching the breeze.

CDW: We know all about your business BethennyBakes, which feature one of my personal favorites, cupcakes! A popular thing for pets that I’ve seen lately are cupcakes for dogs. What’s your thoughts on that can we expect a pupcake if you will or maybe something inspired by Cookie, a “CookieCake” on the site one day?

Bethenny: Cookie loves to watch me cook, so I’d love to use her as a taster and develop a line for her. It’s on the list.

CDW: I interviewed LuAnn about their dog, Aston and she revealed that you both share the same dog walker. How do Aston and Cookie get along, any romance in the air for those two?

Bethenny: Cookie is the cougar and Aston (aka monster) is a young stud. I think it’s hilarious that “Cookie Monster” walk the streets together. I definitely see the love and lust in his eyes when he cones to get her. I’ll give you this: he is a gentleman and picks her up every day on their dates and drops her off promptly. He’s feisty. Give him time. He’ll mature. They’re like Ashton and Demi.

CDW: Cookie has her own MySpace page we discovered and she mentioned she likes doggie day at the spa. Tell us, what hip spa in NY does Cookie park her paws?

Bethenny: Cookie’s lucky because I’m a natural foods chef. Molly, my assistant, Karl, my driver and I give her massages, take her to the park and Molly feeds her carrots (antioxidants). Next will be popcorn. Every day is a spa day for her. Right now, she’s on my lap in the car. Whether out at night or to every meeting, Cookie comes in the car everywhere. She lives for the car and her goal in life is to be included.

CDW: Once again, it was great to reconnect with you and Cookie. If there’s anything else you’d like to add or want us to know, feel free to blurt it out!

Bethenny: I just want to add that Cookie has handled her new fame very well. She really likes her family first although she really perks up for the camera and looks straight into it. Maybe she’s acting like she doesn’t care. She knows how to handle the press although she hasn’t been on Page Six yet. Maybe, when she and Aston (Ashton lol) get together, she’ll get her 15 minutes (105 minutes in dog minutes) of fame soon.

Rihanna Gets Oliver a Cut on Capital Hill

According the Seattle Times yesterday, when singer Rihanna checked in to the Alexis Hotel with a red toy poodle named Oliver, she asked where she could get her dog groomed. A hotel employee recommended Kristi’s Grooming Co. on Capitol Hill, which reportedly stayed open late to accommodate the singer. Rihanna was apparently pleased with the recommendation — she left the hotel employee a personal thank-you note on his desk.

We contacted Kristi’s Grooming and spoke to Kristi herself who happens to be an AKC judge and former dog handler. Experience she said, is helpful in giving precise cuts to dogs. We asked how it all went down and what kind of client Oliver was and here’s what she had to say:

I had the best groomer I have come from my other store to do the grooming for Rihanna. Her assistant brought Oliver over around 5pm which is short notice for a full service considering we close at 6pm but we like to accommodate people when we can. Rihanna gave her assistant very specific instructions over the phone which is helpful - he received what we call a teddy bear cut. She also asked us to brush his teeth but we suggested he didn’t need it done right now. She was slightly disappointed but we really don’t like to take people’s money for services not required. Oliver was really cute and very well behaved. We finished around 6:15pm. We were really happy to provide the service for Rihanna and Oliver.

The Real Housewives of New York City & their Pets: LuAnn de Lesseps & Aston

    Aston de Lesseps

Yesterday we brought you an exclusive interview with Jill Zarin and her dog, Ginger. Today we’ve got photos of Aston and an interview with Countess LuAnn de Lesseps.

CDW: Please refresh us about Aston. What breed is he again and how old is he now?

LuAnn: Aston is a West Highland Terrior and he’s almost 1 yr. now.

CDW: We know your son, Noel, really wanted a dog from watching the show. How’s the training going and are they bonding quite well?

LuAnn: Aston is totally clean and we love him. He’s a quick learner. We have a fabulous dog walker who also walks Bethenny’s dog, Cookie. We laugh because we call them Cookie/Monster. Aston’s nickname was Monster when he was teething.

CDW: How would you describe Aston? As a puppy I imagine he’s quite playful and sleeps a lot still at this point but what personality traits do you see in him so far?

LuAnn: Aston is a real charactor, he loves to dig up my tiny garden in the city and loves to protect his home in the Hamptons. He’s very playful and loves rubber balls the best.

CDW: Has your daughter, Victoria, come around to the name yet? What was her choice if she could have named him?

LuAnn: My daughter loves his name now. She wanted to call him Opi.

CDW: We saw from the show that you travel quite a bit with your husband and we know you travel to the Hamptons every summer, will Aston be traveling with you?

LuAnn: Aston comes to the Hamptons of course and we will take him to Europe as well. He’s part of the family!

Wow, Europe! Aston’s passport will be stamped-up like crazy before you know it!

The Real Housewives of New York City & their Pets: Jill Zarin & Ginger

    Ginger Zarin

    Jill Zarin and Ginger

Bravo unleashed their newest version of The Real Housewives by leaving Orange County and heading to New York City. Having lived in Orange County for ten years myself, I was intrigued to see how different The Real Housewives of New York City would be and boy oh boy, was it ever!

From million dollar homes in the city, daily car services and houses in the Hamptons, the women of The Real Housewives of New York City captured what upscale living is really like and we all had our favorite “housewife”.

I couldn’t help but notice of course the PETS on the show and wasn’t surprised to see that four of the five women had dogs. I reached out to see if they’d be willing to talk to CelebrityDogWatcher.com and we’ll be bringing you interviews from all four women this week starting today with Jill Zarin:

CDW: Hi Jill, thanks for taking the time to talk to us - we know you have a dog, a Chihuahua, from watching the show named Ginger. How old is she?

    Jill: Ginger is four.

CDW: How’s the training going, does Ginger still see Aston, LuAnn’s dog?

Jill: No, we only got together with them that one time. Training is not good, it’s the same. You know what they say, training is only as good as the trainer and I don’t want her to not sleep with us. It’s funny because she will not let me pet her or touch when she’s sleep. It’s OK though because I accept her for who she is just like people accept me for who I am.

CDW: Is she getting along better with Allyson, your daughter?

Jill: It’s about the same with that too, some days are better than others.

CDW: Do you think Ginger will have any other siblings one day?

Jill: I’d really love to have another dog but we have a small apartment and I think it will just get messy. Ginger is house-trained and I can just see another dog in here, I’d like another one but I think we better keep it at one.

CDW: What are the hot spots that you take Ginger?

Jill: I go to Le Chien on Third avenue.

CDW: What about Ginger’s dog bed and carrier?

Jill: Ginger’s bed and carrier is by us, Zarin Fabrics. It’s not cheap but they’re really well made. I have the black carrier.

CDW: So tell me, what’s up with that nose licking thing that Ginger does?

Jill: It’s love, I think a lot of dogs do it don’t you think?

CDW: I’m not sure, I know my dog doesn’t (laughs).

Jill: It doesn’t bother me, I think it’s funny did you see they actually showed that on The Soup?

CDW: Yeah, actually I did, what did you think about it?

Jill: I loved it! I thought it was great, you can’t get mad at something like that.

CDW: Because any press is good press?

Jill: Not always but this you can’t get mad at, I loved it, someone called and told me it was on and I watched. It was great!

If you missed missed Joel McHale’s take on Ginger’s nose licking habit, on The Soup, watch it below:

LA Ink’s Pixie Acia Talks to Celebrity Dog Watcher

    Pixie Acia

    Pixie Acia

We’ve been dying to share these photos and interview with you all and the day is finally here! The very hot Pixie Acia from LA Ink was kind enough to talk to us about two of her favorite things, her pit bulls, Cupcake and Chopper.

She’s a real dog lover and shared some remarkable stuff, including a rescue program she’s very
involved with that we’ll be seeing on a future episode and a peek into the life of her very special dog, Booger, who passed away almost two years ago.

And guys, sorry, but she’s got a boyfriend. A guy can still dream though I guess ;)

Read away and enjoy, we sure did!

CDW: Tell us about your dogs, are you a dog lover?

I have been a HUGE dog lover my whole life… I currently have two of the cutest pit bull girls in the world! Cupcake… she is my heart, I adopted her about 2 1/2 years ago from Karma Rescue, right here in Los Angeles. She was just a baby. She loves to play ball and loves even more when I bite on the side of her face!! Chopper…. she is my soul, my boyfriend rescued her from the streets of Hollywood when she was just a tiny peanut almost 2 years ago. She loves to chase Cupcake, chase the ball and loves to pull me on the skateboard. They live together in perfect harmony with my cat, Monkey! They fill our house with so much love!

CDW: Do you have any goals or aspirations in terms of working with dogs or being around them more?

One of my passions is to someday open my own rescue group for homeless pit bulls. My favorite groups are Villa Lobos Pitbull Rescue and Karma Rescue and they’re both right here in Los Angeles…. I will even be appearing at Villa Lobos in an upcoming episode of LA Ink… I hope to bring a lot of attention to the sweet and innocent dogs who have been living without a family for so long.

CDW: Who’s the third dog in the last picture?

The big white dog is my old dog who passed away almost two years ago. He was harder to lose than some humans. He was the most amazing man that ever lived. He was such a good boy and really spoke to you with his eyes and body language. If you look back in every photo you see you know exactly what he is thinking at that time. The kindest most noble man that ever lived was our beloved Booger. We miss him so much it’s hard to even say his name. :(

Pixie was real sweet in the interview, just like she appears on the show. We can’t wait to catch the episode of her at Villa Lobos and hopefully we’ll see Cupcake and Chopper on the show!

Want more pics? Six more after the jump, keep reading!
