LA Councilman Wants Help from Millan

    Cesar Millan

Los Angeles city councilman, Tony Cardenas, wants Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan to work with him on a youth program on how to treat animals with respect.

Millan recently was honored before a council session for his work with people and their problem pets. Millan has his own television show on the National Geographic Channel, a best-seller, and was profiled in the New Yorker. His Dog Psychology Center in South Los Angeles has become so popular that he needs to expand, the Los Angeles Times said.

No one really knows how serious the animal cruelty problem is in Los Angeles, because for years records weren’t kept, the official said. Shortly after taking office in 2003, Tony Cardenas — who wants to enlist Millan in his latest project — learned that major cruelty cases were not often pursued as felonies. He introduced legislation that created city’s Animal Cruelty Task Force which chalked up nine felony convictions since fall 2005, with several defendants doing prison time.

Patti LaBelle and Nasir - More Info

Philadelphia Inquirer has a new article about Patti LaBelle and Nasir. At one point, before turning to Cesar Millan, LaBelle, even toyed with the idea of even putting Nasir down or giving the dog to her trainer… enter Cesar and things change for the better.

Patti LaBelle and Nasir will be on tomorrow’s episode of the Dog Whisperer.

    Cesar Millan, Under Attack

In the Jan. 22nd issue of People magazine, there is an article called Canine Controversy and Cesar Millan’s techniques are under scrutiny.

I’m not a dog expert obviously, I just happen to love my dogs and dogs in general but I will say this, even though the show says in clear and certain terms to - not try the techniques at home - I admittedly have and the techniques I’ve tried, have WORKED! I didn’t find the techniques cruel or harmful to my dogs, in fact, through watching the show, I realized the behaviors my dogs had that needed to be changed were as a result of what I was doing or not doing. Through changing ME, it changed their behavior alone and with some calm and assertive techniques (like walking my dog past the yard of a dog over and over that made my dog go berserk and correcting my dog’s behavior when he lashed out instead of avoiding the yard altogether) got results. I walk my four-year old Lab every day for an hour now and it is beautiful! I used to dread it, it was so stressful and annoying!

Once again, I’m not a dog expert and I’m not saying Cesar is perfect, no one is, but I do believe in him and his show. We’re all entitled to our opinions so I hope if you make a comment, you keep it clean and respectable.

Thanks to Gail, for the reminder about Daddy!

Cesar Millan Helps out Paul Frank Employees

Thank goodness for Tivo because I am always playing catch up when it comes to watching the many TV shows I’m addicted to.

Last night, I finally watched the recent Dog Whisperer episode and there was a portion of the show I wasn’t expecting.

Cesar Millan visited a dog-friendly office with some not-so-friendly dogs as he entered the corporate world of Paul Frank and his pop-icon hipster monkey products. The new owner, John Oswald, has a four-year old Boxer named Bella that has been attacking other employees′ dogs. But the office problems don′t stop there - another pooch is even more dangerously aggressive and poses a potentially bigger challenge: a 4-year-old Pit Bull mix named Big Boy. Cesar immediately recognizes the need for an intervention - and prescribes a stint at his Dog Psychology Center for Big Boy.

If you missed this episode (which also featured the author of Marley and Me, John Grogan, and his yellow Lab, Gracie), you can catch it again this Friday. Go to National Geographic for show times in your area.
