Well, we’re down to 11 groomers now on Groomer Has It!

As the remaining members of the Blue Team, Krista and Jessica returned to the Dog House there seemed to be collective surprise that Micheal was the one who’d been clipped!

Before they all had time to really reflect on their surprise though, Nemo came running into the Dog House dressed in a little construction outfit, complete with tool belt and hard hat to deliver the notice to appear for their next Quick Sniff Challenge!  Were the groomers going to be building something or, as Chicken Joe hoped, “grooming a construction worker?”

It turned out to be neither.  The second Quick Sniff Challenge  of the season was designed around safety in the salon.  The groomers were required  to go into the salon and identify 25 health and/or safety hazards that had been set up. Working in teams again, the challenge was for each member of the team to go in separately, each having 3 minutes to write down each infraction they saw, and then go back to their team, turn over the list that they’d made for the next member to go in and add to it, hopefully getting all 25 hazards.

One stickler was that the Blue Team was down a man, with Micheal having been cut last week, so while the other three teams had 3 members with a total of 9 minutes for searching; Team Blue had only 2 members and 6 minutes to do the work of 3 people!

The other stickler was, that when one member passed the list to his next team member, the team member going into the salon, had to be able to READ what the previous groomers had found, so they could make the best use of their time. Unfortunately, some of the groomers were either in such a hurry or just had terrible penmanship, that their writing was not only illegible to the team member, but to the judges as well. NOT a good thing; in fact, if they couldn’t read it, the team got no credit for that answer!

In the end, 3 of the teams  tied with 10 hazards being identified (that were legible), while one team came out on top with 13 hazards. Was the Red Team going to be able to keep their winning streak going?

Not this week; Jessica and Krista, the disadvantaged Blue Team won the Quick Sniff Challenge; primarily by their methodical approach to the challenge (and perhaps, good penmanship!).

Having won the Quick Sniff Challenge, the two girls were awarded a trip to an indoor skydiving facility, where they had a great time, bringing back their Certificates of ascension to show off to the Dog House.

While all the groomers  were relaxing and hanging out at the Dog House however, the tensions began to arise when Krista began to talk forcefully about all groomers being required to be “certified master groomers”. This did not go over very well with some of the long-time professional groomers, who felt that having a certificate or letters behind your name had no bearing on the reality of being a proficient and caring groomer.  Some of the groomers steered completely clear of this volatile issue and others refuted Krista’s reasoning, which seemed to anger and upset her.  Suffice it to say that more than one groomer was pushed to the brink of tears during this emotional discussion.

Fast forward to the Grooming Challenge for this episode~ The teams were dissolved and it was every groomer for himself!  This challenge was a corrective grooming challenge; the groomers were greeted by a group of  pups with horribly botched grooming jobs that they had to rectify.  Kendra Wilkinson, former Girl Next Door celebrity, was the guest judge this week!

Having a “leg up” after winning the Quick Sniff Challenge, Jessica and Krista got to choose their own dogs to groom. They also got to choose the other groomer’s dogs for THEM. Krista used this opportunity to seek revenge on those who had disagreed with or had upset her and matched them accordingly.  The groomers had 2 hours to transform their own dog.

After examining all the dogs, Cassandra, Jessica, Krista and Chicken Joe were selected to stay in front of the judges panel while the remaining 7 were sent back to the Dog House.  Jessica took runner-up for her groom on a Welsh Terrier; a breed she’d never groomed previously, but did a very nice job on. Cassandra took top honors as Best In Show for her groom on a long-coated Yorkie.

Krista and Chicken Joe were in the bottom two! And Krista had given Chicken Joe a Pomeranian;  his specialty!

Chicken Joe’s Pom, Kobe, had alopecia and a skin condition he described as “old dog gringe”.  He was reticent to brush very close to the skin due to this issue and after last week, didn’t want to be the second one to go because of brush burn!  His objective became  to just tidy up the dog and make sure it was clean.

Krista had chosen a Yorkie for herself (her own pet’s breed) but was called out for leaving matts in it’s face and eye goobers!

Ultimately, because so little grooming had been done on the Pomeranian, whether from erring on the side of caution vs. incompetence; (and as Doc Halligan pointed out, “this is a grooming competition”), Chicken Joe was “clipped” this week and will be returning to his island and all his pets.

The judges collectively remarked that they had not seen top grooming from the 11 groomers and chided them to “STEP UP THEIR GAME”!

Next week should be interesting when everyone sees Krista coming back into the house!

Thank you, CDW, for the addition of contributor Seana N. Her commentary on the pictures is informative and the dogs’ comments are adorable. Also, I no longer receive the Animal Planet channel, so I really appreciate Seana N’s recap of each week’s show. She is a valuable asset to your team.
