“Chicken Joe” Taylor got his name by being a doctor of poultry genetics (chicken doctor) for 10 years. Involved in dog grooming since childhood, he’s shown several breeds of American Kennel Club (AKC) champions including Hall of Fame Champion Borzoi, Afghans and Pugs. Now, devoted to showing his 20 or so AKC Championship Pomeranians; he also grooms the dogs of very upscale clients in his home salon in southern Maine, specializing in the “Panda Pom”; black and white Pomeranians that look like little Pandas!
Chicken Joe was the second groomer to be clipped in Groomer Has It’s second season. He graciously gave Celebrity Dog Watcher an inteview:
CDW:  Hi Chicken Joe! We’ve been enoying watching you on this season’s Groomer Has It and are really sorry to see you leave so soon! Your unique perception of the Dog House experience has been so  entertaining!
How large a factor do you think your penmanship in the Quick Sniff challenge was in your ultimately being “clipped” this week?
CJ: Well, I was doctor for 10 years so what did they expect? Someone could have asked me what it said and not to make excuses but my pen wasn’t working right. I felt like I was carving into the clip board. In a hurry my handwriting is just like any other doctors.

CDW: Do you feel now that you might have not been quite aggressive enough in the grooming of Kobe in the Grooming Challenge, or would you maintain in his case that “less is more”?

CJ:  I absolutely did what was right to sooth and heal Kobe’s coat and skin condition and to make him beautiful.

CDW:    Do you agree with Krista’s position on “certified master groomer” credentialing? If not, would you explain?

CJ:    Come on, what would you expect an owner of a grooming school to say? Krista is my friend, but old school has worked fine for me.
CDW:   Which groomer do you feel is the strongest and which do you feel is the weakest?

CJ: I have mixed emotions. I think Lisa and Huber are running neck and neck, but without a doubt, Huber is the most caring and dedicated. Possibly Vanessa was the weakest.

CDW:     Who would you like to see win the competition since you’re not in the running any longer?
CJ:        Huber, without a doubt. He’s the only pick for me as it is all in the size of your heart. He loves what he does and really cares for the animals.
CDW:    Would you describe what your personal grooming specialty, the “Panda Pom” is?
CJ: Well, it took 20 years to perfect the markings on our champion panda poms to look like a panda. Creative styling also helps transform panda poms to perfection. Grooming and scissoring a panda pom is definitely different than the grooming you’d do to a regular pom.
CDW:   What island do you live on?
CJ:       I live on Ostrich Island. It’s land locked, not surrounded by water and it’s part of Well, ME. The Wells Police named the property actually.

CDW:       Please tell us about your many varied pets that you share your life with and their names?

CJ: I have a number of poms including Stinky, Champion Bingo, Nugget, Tantrum, and Lemonade just to name a few. I have a Tortoise named Olive, a gold fish I call Goldie and a pair of Solomon Island Eclectus Parrots named Ruby and Charlie. Lastly, I have two dozen Spanish Timbrado and Russian singer canaries.

Chicken Joe, Celebrity Dog Watcher wants to thank you very much  for taking the time to share a bit of your life and views with our readers!
