Sherri Shinsky is a dog groomer and certified massage practitioner with 8 years of experience who hails from the small midwestern farming community of Medina, Ohio and works at a veterinary clinic in neighboring Wellington. When she’s not pursuing her passion for making the local pets look and feel better, Sherri is a busy PTA-mom, focused on raising her boys to be proud of their mom.
Sherri was the 3rd groomer to be “clipped” from the second season of Groomer Has It and was kind enough to do an interview with Celebrity Dog Watcher. Here’s what she had to say:
1. You beat a lot of other hopefuls to make it to the Top 12; what do you think it was that set you apart from so many others?
I really don’t know – During one of my interviews, I was asked if I groomed any Celebrity’s dogs……… I said Yes, I groom the Chief of Police’s dog for the city of Wellington! I groom for a mostly farming community in Wellington Ohio and I feel very honored to groom the “average dogs”. Maybe that’s why I was chosen because I’m a really down to earth kind of girl!
2. You seem so down-to-earth; were you surprised by some of the flamboyancy and drama from some of the other competitors?
Oh Yeah!! The DRAMA! Ya know, I have better things to worry about in life then getting caught up with all that DRAMA!  It was important to me to stay true to myself and leave with my Integrity.
3. Did you feel like you were prepared for this type of competition?
No, I was not prepared for this competition!  Living with 11 other people and all their 15 personalities (some people had more then one lol)
4. If it hadn’t been for the ‘faux-paw’ with the color-tipped tail, do you think you would have been able to stick it out for the duration?
No, I don’t think I would have made it to the end. I am a everyday “pet groomer” having an animal on my table for 4 hours is not my thing. Some of the other groomers have competed in “grooming competitions” and I think that helped them have a leg up.
5. What was your favorite of all the challenges you participated in? Which was the least favorite?
Actually, my favorite was the second episode where we had to “fix” the bad groom jobs! It was my favorite because I had such a young dog (he was a crazy boy) and at the end I know he had a positive experience and I made a friend for life!
My least favorite was definitely the Massage dogs!! I didn’t agree with massaging an animal when it was 100 degrees outside.
6. Did you learn anything from either the challenge’s or the other groomers that you can take back home with you and apply to your practice? If so, what?
Â
Â
Â
I have learned not to tip dogs tails with color!! haha
7. There had to be some ‘moments’ in the Dog House with all the different personalities and living in such close quarters! Was there any particular occurrence that stands out in your memory, either funny or tense?
Oh yeah………….Actually, one night Krista did my makeup (which took 2 1/2 hours) and Bill did my hair and I came out looking like a show girl! I had so much fun! I looked like Elizabeth Taylor!
Â
Â
Tense……………. was probably the talk between Krista and Lisa regarding Certification. I’m passionate about my work but really, everyone has their own opinion.
8. Do you think you’ll maintain contact with any of the other groomers you competed against? Who did you connect with most and who did you feel was the least likely to be on your BFF list?
Best Friend Forever – I honestly got along with everyone! (maybe that’s why I didn’t last, I’m not enough DRAMA) I still talk with most of the contestants on Facebook.

Celebrity Dog Watcher would like to thank Sherri for her time and letting us in on some of the “secrets” of the show! Good luck back home, Sherri!
