People magazine reported on the Pets of Bel Air pet store this week which gives a nice follow-up to the story we first broke weeks ago.
Not only were Paris Hilton, Katharine McPhee and Britney Spears celebrity customers of the shop, apparently Clint Black, Demi Moore and Denise Richards also, according to People, were shoppers.
The owners of the store have denied knowingly buying any dogs from puppy mills and are accused, according to records of paying $400 for puppies from mills and then increasing the prices substantially with some dogs going as high as $2400!
Starting next month, all Los Angeles pet stores will have to report where their puppies were purchased and display the info, right on the crates. Hopefully, this will go nation-wide.
Side Note: Our very own Kym Williams did a story on puppy mills in the latest issue of Paw Print Magazine.

Nice story…if you follow all the tabloids and periodicals that print what they consider to be “news” and present it as “fact” even though there has been no formal investigation to the allegations. Being a dog lover myself, I can see why the hype brings this type of story to the forefront, but don’t believe everything you hear. Let’s hear and see some evidence rather than everything we are hearing and seeing on TV that amounts to urban legend. I’d like to put forth an open request to the Humane Society: “Bring on the evidence”. Lets see the unedited tapes, give us some background on your (dis) information so we can decide if your story really is true or if they’re just going after the top “dog” to get at the true culprits. Let’s remember not to throw out the puppy with the bath water.
January 16th, 2008 at 3:28 pmI think it should pass a low that will stop animals to be sold in pet stores. Pets should be bought only from breeders. Resposnible breeders would never sell to a pet store so of course the pets sold at the et stores are coming from puppy mills or back yard breeders!
