On what would have been his 47th birthday, Celebrity Dog Watcher would like to pay tribute to life-long dog lover JFK Jr. (born November 25, 1960) and his Canaan dog, named Friday. Kennedy tragically died in a plane crash with his wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, and her sister Lauren on July 16, 1999.
John, with Friday in tow, was a familiar and frequent sight around New York City, where he made his home. Friday was even featured in a photo shoot Carolyn did for the September 1999 issue of Vanity Fair. We are not sure what became of Friday – the last update, many years ago, had him living with John’s sister, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.
John, his wife Carolyn and sister-in-law Lauren are sorely missed.

According to the 2007 book American Legacy: The Story of John and Caroline Kennedy by C. David Heymann, Friday was given to Efigenio Pinheiro who retired with the dog to Portugal (page 500).
