Russell Simmons starred in a public service announcement that debuted on YouTube. The spot shows a tiny, blindfolded Jack Russell terrier being offered up to a pit bull for the kill. “There is nothing slick, cool or glamorous about dogfighting,” Simmons states. “It hurts the human spirit as much as it hurts the animals.”
BeKind founder Frances Hayward and Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society offered the NFL the spot to air during its games, but the league, still reeling from the conviction of Atlanta Falcon Michael Vick on dog-fighting charges, punted the offer. Vick is to be sentenced on Dec. 10.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to show a family “adopting†a “pit bull†and treating it kindly.. people forget.. the ANIMALS ARE THE VICTIMS.. INCLUDING the “pit bullsâ€.. this only makes the dogs seem like they are the “perps†no the people.. and that “small dogs†are more gentle.. and that “pit bulls†are savage on their own.. nothing could be further from the truth.. but truth?? Who cares about that..
The reason we don’t show “executions on TV is not because it would deter the actions of some.. BUT because it will PROMOTE the actions of others.

How about a great clip of Cesar Millan with his “pit bull” Daddy to show the TRUTH about “pit bulls”.. How about a clip showing that 48 of the 49 “pit bulls” at Vicks house are stable enough for ‘adoption” or placement? After what they have been through it shows the TRUE nature of thie wonderful breed. How about a clip of someone in JAIL for fighitng dogs? There is so much that could be done rather than this clip that vilifies THE DOGS rather than the people. WAKE UP RUSSELL SIMMONS. use your ‘celeb” status to help SAVE dogs rather than KILL THEM…

The “pit bull” is a great companion animal and NOT the killer they are made out to be! Use that celeb status to STOP horrible breed specific legislation and educate rather than fuel the indecent! Get a grip! The NFL wants Vick to fade into the sunset, using the pro sports venue to draw attention to a moral illness is inappropriate.
