How Tragic
Clearly, Vanessa has power issues and needs to address them realisticlly in order to be an effective Animal Rescue . The fact she threatened to “Go to the media” means she accomplished her ultimum goal, PUBLICITY. Were it not for the tragedy of that sweet little dog and that devastated family I would find Vanessa’s Puffing and posturing to be an amusing situation of “Little fish in Big pond making a stink” I think that the rescue should refund the monies donated by Ellen and Portia so they can donate them where they will be appreciated.
Ellen, Keep your chin up, True colors are just that
October 16th, 2007 at 4:07 pmI feel absolutely heartsick for everyone in this situation except Vanessa. When there are so many animals out there who need to be rescued, why is she wasting her time holding this one, who clearly has a loving home. She should be ashamed of herself.

Iggy should be brought home!!!! This is an outrage.
October 16th, 2007 at 10:08 pmThis has happened twice through our rescue group, but after interviews with both parties (adopter and new applicant) we approved the homes. It is a simple matter of paperwork; if a dog is not in IMMINENT DANGER this was a bit over the top.
The dog could have been considered safe in a foster home until the legal paperwork was worked out.
YOU GOTTA READ THOSE CONTRACTS; if written well they do hold up in court.

Clearly the moms of Mutts and Moms are abusing their power. Don’t worry about Ellen, she is an adult and can take care of herself but think what you as moms have done to those little girls. Shame on you!!!!!!!
October 17th, 2007 at 9:56 amThis is unbelievably crazy…if Iggy was in a good home, then he should be left. If not, then state the reason and maybe it could be corrected. Where is Iggy now…is he in a cage?
October 17th, 2007 at 10:58 amWow, this is so sad. I volunteer for a local dog rescue organization. The reason an organization requests that dogs come back to them, vs. being passed along is to ensure that the dog’s best interest is at heart. The rule exists because not everyone finds a caring, compassionate home like the family Ellen found — and it is the only way the rescue agency can be sure that pooches are placed in good homes.
That said, it sounds like this woman handled the situation really poorly. All she needed to do was set up a home visit with the new family to ensure that they were good caregivers, and legalize the adoption with them.
October 17th, 2007 at 3:52 pmYou want bad press Mutts and Moms?? I think you got it….Come on Mutts and Moms…this is a no-brainer….Apologize, hand over the dog to the girls and get on with the good work you do…only next time….dont let your biases…or personal opinions fog your decision…
October 17th, 2007 at 7:28 pmDid I hear Ellen say she cares about animals? Please she only cared for the dog 2 wks and out he went. I accept she has cats but I don’t agree that after a mere 2 wks, you toss the dog aside. She said in other articles that it was too energetic. Knowing Iggy was high energy, she either should have never adopted him. Or she should have worked at a more successful way of introducing the dog to cats. I did it…3 young dogs to two cats and it took time but I was committed to ALL of the pets and now they live together…maybe never best friends but the dogs respect the cats’ space. Ellen just seems to forget to point out her mere two week committment. In such a short time, there is NO excuse for not having contacted the rescue.
