As suspected by most, the bid for $1.5 milion dollars on a used tin can of dog food has been removed. It seems that 90% of the bids turned out to be “bids for fun” which isn’t cool to the folks over at eBay monitoring the policies.

So here’s an update - yesterday, the highest bid was over $1.5 million. Today, now we see the high bid at $162.50. That price is still surprising to us over here at CDW because well, the can is empty and uh, it’s just a can.

A question on the listing explains it all:

Q: Hi! Did you take out the highest bids!? IF YES WHY?? Jun-28-07
A: WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH EBAY TO ROOT OUT ILLEGITIMATE BIDDERS. PLEASE ALLOW LEGITIMATE BIDDERS / COLLECTORS TO BID ON THIS ITEM. THANK YOU.

So, for those of you that thought you were out of the game to own this one-of-a-kind item, don’t fret my pets, it looks like the clock has been reset and you can bid, bid, bid away. Just don’t bid with a sense of humor ;)
